Susan has been a vital part of the Winnipeg Music scene for many years. After completing a music degree in Recorders & Early Music, she went on to co-found the popular Medieval/Celtic performing ensemble Walsyngham Way, the Winnipeg Early Music Society and to perform with Musik Barock Ensemble, the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, and in many other concerts and events.
About 20 years ago, Susan began studying, performing and teaching traditional Irish music. Born and raised in England with a Welsh mother, Celtic music is in her blood! With her partner Paul, she traveled to Ireland in 2002 to obtain her Irish traditional music teaching diploma T.T.C.T.(Honours).
Susan and Paul perform concerts regularly as a duo and with other musicians, primarily in Irish, Traditional & Early music.
Susan is on the Board of the Irish Cultural Organization Comhaltas Winnipeg and is the Artistic Director of the annual Winnipeg Irish Festival held on the third weekend of each September.
Paul & Susan taught and performed throughout the Manitoba Arts Council's Artist in the Schools program for 17 years, have a popular instrumental CD available: From Distant Shores: Irish Traditional Music from Canada and run a thriving School of Traditional Music & Arts (hammersmusic@gmail.com) in the heart of Osborne Village.
Past work/productions: Performing and teaching music for over 30 years. Susan is involved in lots of volunteer activities including running free weekly Irish music session for students of all ages and abilities for over 20 years. Susan is also volunteer Artistic Director of the Winnipeg Irish Festivals.
Paul & Susan will be starting a new business venture this Fall: a school of traditional music & arts.
