A NIGHT WITH NEW FOLK CD RELEASE: TODD MENTONS THE DOLMEN FIELD, DECEMBER 18, 2008

November 18, 2008 Minneapolis, Minnesota New Folk Records announces the release of The Dolmen Fields, the latest work by recording artist Todd Menton with a celebratory CD release concert A Night with New Folk at the Cedar Cultural Center, Minneapolis, on December 18, 2008, 7:30pm. Lehto & Wright open the show.

Like his previous release, Where Will You Land (NFR 2003), The Dolmen Field covers a broad range of folk-rock and original styles. Tracks range from traditional instrumental pieces and songs including Peggy Gordon and the Bonny Light Horseman, to original compositions Dolmen and Sure of Me. The concert will feature Todd and friends in a broad range of combinations, instrumentation, and rhythms. Expect powerful tunes backed by Cedar favorites Savage Aural Hotbed, shimmering original ballads on solo guitar, and straight-up pub rock with New Folk stalwarts Lehto and Wright featuring Matt Jacobs. Todd Menton is the lead singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist for the legendary folk-rock band Boiled in Lead (BiL). A native Minnesotan, Todd joined BiL in 1985, and toured with the band for eight years, playing at major festivals and concert venues in Europe, the U.K., Canada and the U.S. He contributed songs and tunes to three award-winning albums, including From the Ladle to the Grave and Orb. In 1992 Todd hit the road playing solo shows in pubs, clubs, and festivals throughout the Midwest. During this time he released two acclaimed solo discs on New Folk Records, Punts and Where Will You Land. The Dolmen Field is his third solo release. At the bands invitation, Todd rejoined Boiled in Lead in 2005. They released their new CD, Silver,in March 2008. Todd continues to forge new ground with the band while pushing boundaries and making joyous, raucously eclectic folk-noise in his ongoing solo work. Todds calling card is his wry, edgy performing style, focusing on warm, vibrant vocals and sharp playing on guitar, bouzouki, mandolin, bodhran, and tin whistle. Audiences can expect all the drama and hilarity of the traditional songs and tunes, and the darkly humorous word-play of his original songs, delivered with wit and crackling energy. What others are saying about Todd Mentons music: a fearless creatorclearly for those with adventurous tastes - Ken Roseman, Sing Out! Great grunge guitar over morris tunes and old reelswitty originals, too. Great stuff, more please. - fRoots, (UK). The psychotic underbelly of Celtic music - John ORegan, Green Man Review.
